Stonewhips Design
I like the look of subtle, balanced lines. Whether it's a D-cell Maglite or a big Estwing framing hammer, these elegant curves on brutally efficient tools speak to me. Within this design concept, I craft the curves and lines of my floggers with the quiet beauty of braided leather.

ACCURACY
For me, it's got to be the primary characteristic of any flogger. If you can't hit what you're aiming for the whip is not very useful for sensation play. After much experimentation with various number of tails, I've come back to the standard specs. Twenty four 1/2" tails (or twenty 5/8" tails of heavier thuddy leather) produces a flogger that can put most of it's impact into a 4 inch square. I like 18-24" long tails as a standard for the medium and high intensity leathers, 15-21" for the softer ones. These specifications are what I recommend, other lengths available upon request.

It's a simple equation, a 24 tress(tail) heavy cowhide will have as much impact as a 48 tail light cowhide and will be more accurate. I do build 30 - 48 tail whips from lightweight, skin sensation leather like garment suede and deer. Unless the handle is smaller than an inch in diameter, the very light leathers sometimes have a more balanced look with 30 tails. Extra and/or narrow width tails also available on the heavier whips, but only recommended if you are sure the standard specs won't do.

LEATHER
A variety of leather from the softest lamb suede to the heaviest bullhide is available. More info on various leathers and their effect is available in the All About section of my Flogger Links page.

KNOTS
If there is one feature that sets my floggers apart from most others, it is the use of latigo to make the intricate pineapple knots. The heavy leather will never lay as smoothly as garment weight knots (and it is harder to tie), but I like the look and feel of it. The knots have a texture, depth and strength to them that says: "this is a working tool". I also believe that these knots tighten into the handle and tress better than light weight leather.
A metallic silver interweave is available. A smaller version of the pineapple (pictured left) using beveled kangaroo lace and various interweaves is also available for the smaller whips.

HANDLES
Although I like texture in my knots, I appreciate a smooth handle. My standard braid is the 12 plait herringbone, done tight and straight in black goatskin (calf & kangaroo available depending on supply). I can use hand dyed blue, red, purple and green in my handles upon request.
I then roll and hand bone the braid to smooth it. My handle braids may not be the fanciest, but they are some of the smoothest. 16 plait herringbone and 12 plait split diamond and diamond braids available. The handles run 7" - 10" in length, 1" to 1 1/2" in diameter reflecting the length and size of the tails and are balanced behind the tress knot (balance point is adjustable). The wrist strap is flat braided, as is the optional clip loop.
